Why Purpose

And what Is My Purpose

The following post is an invitation to recognize the deep purpose that lives within us, to understand how it reveals itself through our personal and collective lives, and to choose to illuminate the world from that place with greater awareness.

For many years, I found it difficult to define myself in relation to the world. My path moved between fields, between people, between the languages of body, psyche, and spirit, and so every definition felt too narrow for what was alive within me. Whenever people asked me what my purpose in this world was, I felt that my consciousness was far too fluid to be reduced to a single title. So I would answer, to raise awareness in the world.

And then yesterday, truly just yesterday, a quiet clarity came to me in the early hours of the morning. Suddenly I could see that throughout my life, no matter what I chose to do, one clear and steady movement kept returning again and again, a movement that always brought me back to the light within. I understood that “Light Warrior” is the heart of my essence.

I remember one particular visit to the Israel Museum, in the section where the Dead Sea Scrolls are kept. The first sentence that caught my eye was, “The War of the Sons of Light Against the Sons of Darkness.” Those words touched me at the root and awakened a deep knowing within me. I understood that this struggle with darkness has been alive for thousands of years, and continues through that small human remnant that carries light into the world. Are you one of them?

This connects me to the deep source of strength within the people of Israel, to be a light unto the nations. Of all the sources, the words that feel most powerful to me are, “Let there be light, and there was light.” This is the very first moment in which light is created as a movement of consciousness within reality. The power of words lies in their ability to open a new space. Sometimes an inner call is enough, “Let there be light,” and the light has already begun to appear.

I have always felt, even if I did not always declare it in words, that I am a proud daughter of the people of Israel, and that my inner movement, like that of many of my people, is to kindle the light, to awaken inspiration, remembrance, and recognition of the true purpose hidden within each one of us. Yet in order to illuminate others, we must first be willing to see, consciously, the light and the purpose within ourselves. This is an ongoing journey, and I have been walking it for fifty five years.

At times, our purpose lies right in front of us. It is so simple that consciousness struggles to recognize it. And so sometimes we set out on a long journey only to see clearly what had always been there.

So this morning I understand more than ever that if we are speaking in terms of definitions, the most accurate definition for me is Light Warrior. Not a warrior of struggle. A warrior of awareness. A warrior of presence. A warrior who brings light to places where consciousness contracts from fear, pain, or uncertainty.

In a time of war, unrest, and deep fragmentation of consciousness, the real question is not only what is happening in the world. The question is who we choose to be within this reality.

I meet more and more people who feel an inner calling to become carriers of light. Not as a title. Not as a spiritual identity that removes them from life. But as an inner quality that longs to live through them here, within the human everyday.

Purpose is not a role. It is not a profession. Nor is it an external goal to be achieved. Purpose is the root of being, the deep direction of life as it seeks to unfold through us.

Some are here to bring healing. Some are here to reveal truth. Some are here to create connection. Some are here to bring creation and renewal. Some are here to hold space when the world trembles. Some are here to restore trust. Some are here to open the heart. Some are here to bring order and clarity. And some are here simply to be a conscious presence that reminds others to breathe.

In times of war, this calling becomes even sharper. Not to fight darkness, but to increase light. Not to disconnect from pain, but to bring awareness, compassion, and precision into it.

Carriers of light are not necessarily those who stand on a stage. Sometimes it is a mother soothing her children. Sometimes it is the one who truly listens to a friend. Sometimes it is a teacher who remains steady for her students. These are the people who agree to preserve mutual responsibility and unity even when the heart is pulled to the right and to the left.

“For with You is the fountain of life. In Your light we see light.” Light is a power in the world. Through light itself we learn to see. When we are connected to our purpose, we become an anchor. When we give meaning to our experiences, we deepen. When we agree to act from mission, we influence. And when all three meet, our unique destiny in the world is revealed.

Perhaps this very moment is an invitation to quietly ask what kind of light is seeking to move through me in this time, what quality of life is asking to take shape in me today, and how I can bring a little more awareness into the reality in which we live.

To be a warrior of light means choosing presence even when it is easy to be swept into fear. Choosing humanity even when reality grows difficult. Choosing to see the light that is already here, and to give it room to grow. As it is said, “A little light dispels much darkness.”

The world does not need opinions alone. It needs people with consciousness, discernment, and a true connection to purpose. That consciousness begins in each of us, here and now. Purpose begins there too, in the willingness to know ourselves honestly. To ask why we are here, what longs to be realized through us, and why there is something within us that refuses to give up before it has lived what it came here to live. What is that more within us that longs to continue, to expand, and for what.

If you feel that you carry light, vision, or truth that you are here to bring into the world, a sense of exposure almost always arises as well. Light draws attention. Attention can bring inspiration, but at times it also brings criticism, resistance, or misunderstanding. The body and the psyche learn from lived experience, and so a natural caution develops. It is an inner way of protecting ourselves from pain or rejection.

When an inner identity begins to form around a great mission, deep fears can arise. The fear of not living up to what is being asked. The fear of being alone on the path. The fear of being seen as strange or different. It is not always fear of the light itself, but of what it means to live that light openly.

Light does not have to break through all at once. It can grow quietly. The human consciousness of this time is no longer asking for a single individual to fight the darkness alone, but for a collective willing to kindle the light. And so if each one of us agrees to be a small light, together we can become a steady light in a world where the darkness often appears to be growing.

As I wrote earlier, purpose is not a role, not a profession, and not an external destination you are meant to reach.

Purpose is a deep existential direction. It is the inner movement of your being as it seeks to live through you in the world. So when you try to understand your purpose, the question is not only what you do, but what keeps returning and making itself present throughout your life, what quality keeps asking to take form through you again and again, and what frequency you carry even without trying to explain it.

If your purpose is healing, you likely carry within you a balancing and calming presence. People feel relief around you even when you are not trying to do anything special. Something in the way you are, listen, breathe, and meet another person allows movement toward release, deep breathing, and a natural return to center.

If your purpose is the revelation of truth, there may be in you a deep sensitivity to whatever is not accurate. It is difficult for you to pass by things without sensing what is asking to be uncovered. You are drawn to ask, to investigate, to refine, to peel back layers, and to bring inner clarity even when that path asks courage of you.

If your purpose is connection, you probably see links where others see separation. There is in you a natural impulse to bridge worlds, people, perceptions, and polarities. You create a space in which meeting, reconciliation, cooperation, and inclusion can take place.

If your purpose is creation and renewal, you carry within you a constant movement of birth. Something in you struggles to remain inside the familiar for too long, and a natural need awakens in you to open new possibilities, breathe life into what has grown stale, and bring fresh spirit into ordinary situations. Even when you are not engaged in creation in the artistic sense, your very presence moves processes forward, stirs inspiration, and invites momentum.

If your purpose is holding space, you become most visible in moments when reality begins to shake. You do not rush to solve, fix, or withdraw. You know how to remain present. Your ability to stay steady within uncertainty allows others to remain connected to themselves and to find inner ground again.

If your purpose is restoring trust, there is in you a gentle quality that helps reopen the heart after heartbreak, disappointment, or loss. You may find yourself meeting, again and again, people who have grown weary of life, and through you, something within them begins to remember that it is possible to trust again.

If your purpose is opening the heart, you know how to touch closed places through tenderness, through humanity, and through a gaze that is willing to keep seeing goodness even when others have stopped seeing it. You have the ability to awaken softness where armor has formed, and to remind others gently that not all is lost even when the heart is tired. Your presence helps people feel safer opening, feeling, and returning to themselves from a place that is simple, honest, and real.

If your purpose is bringing order and clarity, you take ideas, emotions, experiences, or visions and turn them into something that can actually be lived. You ground, organize, clarify, and create a structure within which life can flow. You have the ability to see what is essential and what is secondary, what needs form and what needs simplification. Through you, things become more understandable, more workable, and more accessible, until at last it becomes possible to breathe inside them.

If your purpose is emotional depth, you know how to remain with feeling without becoming afraid of it, without flooding, and without disappearing into it. You do not rush to close, solve, or escape what is being felt. You are willing to stay with what rises in the psyche and in the heart. Your presence expands the human space around you and allows others to feel more truthfully, to make room for what is alive in them, and to discover that feeling is not weakness but a gateway to depth, connection, and fuller humanity.

If your purpose is remembrance, you have probably known moments in life when a single word of yours, a single look, one creation, or simply the way you live reminds others of who they truly are. You do not need to explain much, and you do not need to persuade. At times, your presence itself acts as a quiet reminder of what was forgotten, what became covered over, and what is still alive within, asking to return to the forefront of awareness. There is in you a quality that awakens remembrance without effort and without proclamation.

If your purpose is to illuminate human consciousness, you surely feel that your life is called again and again to awaken light, remembrance, and deeper connection. You feel an inner pull to bring clarity to places of confusion, to open awareness where there is constriction, and to remind people that there is more in them than appears on the surface. You will not always do this through words. At times it happens through your presence, through the way you ask, listen, create, or simply live. Something in you longs to illuminate, not by force, but through a consciousness that invites others to see a little more, feel a little more, and remember the light that already exists within them.

It is important to understand that your purpose does not have to appear in only one form. At times it reveals itself through several qualities living in you at once, and at times there is one deep, quiet, continuous movement that accompanies you throughout life long before you have found the words to name it.

When you want to recognize your purpose in actual life, the simplest and most reliable way is to look at recurring patterns in your life. Not only at what you have succeeded in, but at what kept returning as a meaningful encounter. Ask yourself in which situations people turn to you naturally, which experiences create in you a deep sense of flow, where you feel that you bring value even without unusual effort, and which situations challenge you precisely because they are asking you to grow into what you came here to live. At times purpose reveals itself through pain. At times it reveals itself through desire. And at times it is present as a quiet knowing that needs no explanation.

Here it is also important to clarify the distinction between four concepts that are sometimes confused with one another. Purpose is the essence of your being. It is the inner direction of your life. Meaning is the experience you give to what you go through. It is the way life gains depth within your consciousness. Mission is conscious action in the world. It is the place where you choose to express yourself, to give, to influence, and to take responsibility for what moves through you. Destiny is the unique path that is formed when purpose, meaning, and mission meet within the particular story of your life. When your purpose is recognized, an inner axis is formed within you. When meaning awakens, depth is revealed. When mission is lived, influence comes into being. And when destiny is unveiled, life is experienced as a whole movement seeking to bring goodness into creation.

In a time when collective reality is trembling, another dimension of purpose also becomes visible, and that is the collective dimension. The question is no longer only what you came to bring personally, but what seeks to take form through you as part of a shared consciousness. In times of crisis, the call to bring steadiness, compassion, mutual responsibility, and conscious light into the field becomes sharper. You participate in this movement through the way you speak, through your daily choices, and through the way you meet fear, pain, and uncertainty. Collective purpose comes into being when more and more people agree to act out of awareness rather than reactivity.

It may very well be that this very moment is inviting you to widen your understanding of purpose. Not to see it as something merely private, but to understand that it is part of a wider human movement. When you are connected to your personal purpose, you naturally contribute to the shared purpose as well. And when collective consciousness awakens, a new field of life opens. So perhaps the most important question you can hold right now is not complicated at all. Ask yourself what quality of life is seeking to take form through you in this time. You may not have one immediate and clear answer. Yet the very willingness to listen to that question is already opening a path within you.

In closing, purpose is the value or inner direction that seeks to be realized through you. Meaning is the experience you give to that journey. Mission is the way you choose to express it in the world. Destiny is the unique form of life that is born from the meeting between them.
